Todd Hiltz & myself got out to a couple Cellar holes today.1st site coughed up some buttons and fizzled out.We then moved onto next site.It was real quiet there.on the backside of the cellar I got one button and turns out to be a Admiral Vernon Button...circa 1739-1750.unfortunately it looked better dirty as the dirt filled in the pits. Also from the same site was this 1600's laten spoon bowl. Thanks to the guys on American military button page for all the input and IDing it for me.last site coughed up some designed dandy buttons and the tiniest axe head I ever seen.also dug a WWII Naval honorable discharge stud at a newer cellar. Was a great day to be out.

Great finds. Maybe add some dirt back in.

Congratualtions on the great relic hunt! :notworthy:

That is one beautiful button. I think so far my favorite I have seen. Congrats!!!!

Wow....love those finds! Very nice.

That's a very serious button. I tried to find out about the button, but didn't have too much luck. What I did find out was what a rare button this is, and the courageous Admiral behind it. Wow. And that button is about as good as museum examples and quite rare. Banner button any day in my book.

It's great to see you're getting out and killing it. The latten spoon bowl is an incredible find alone. You're on it buddy!

Awesome button find! Haven't seen that one. Congrats on a killer rare find. I have learned through trial and error that water isn't good for brass or pewter relics. I think most of the time a dry tooth brush is all you need.

Wow that button is incredible buddy! BANNER find. I would also be willing to bet your latten spoon bowl has a touch mark in the bowl. I'm guessing I don't need to tell you just how early that bowl is. That's very old dirt

Thanks so much for the banner vote.somebody hammered this site but left the one Vernon button and the spoon bowl.only 2 targets at the site.I can only imagine what previous detectorsists pulled from this site.

For sure a touch mark pal. Most of these were also silver washed. I cleaned the strawberry knop spoon enough to see the touch mark better and it shows plenty of the silvering still. These latten spoons are nearly impossible to find in the US. Bill D I believe has never found one which pretty much sums up the rarity. Your call on the cleaning but I'd bet you could likely make out the mark. I kind of wish I had never cleaned my strawberry knop spoon but curiosity got the best of me.

That's an incredible button. I believe it deserves a banner vote. Here's mine

Congrats on an outstanding button.

That's one killer button, something about cross cannons screams 'MERICA although Mr Vernon was very British :laughing7:
Thanks man! Washington's brother served under Admiral Vernon and Mount Vernon was named after this gentleman. Interesting facts.

That has to be one of the coolest buttons I've ever seen Dave. Awesome find man!!!
