Well, we dressed for Antarctica today, but it really wasn't that bad. The wind didn't really start howling until we were about to leave.

My buddy got on the board early with a an 1840's Six Pence. I was determined to find a silver.

All three of these coins, any of us would have found. They weren't very deep.

I had no idea what the big copper was until my friend saw it. It turns out to be quite rare -- an 1815 Magdalen Island token. Unfortunately, it is in terrible shape.

The Magdalen Islands had only one coin - a 1 Penny token issued in 1815 by Sir Isaac Coffin.
The obverse of the coin depicts a seal on an ice floe. It is inscribed 'MAGDALEN ISLAND TOKEN 1815'. The reverse of the coin depicts two gutted fish similar to that depicted on 1/2d. tokens from Prince Edward Island. The reverse inscription is 'SUCCESS TO THE FISHERIES', which refers to the fishing industry essential to the islands' economy.
This coin is very sought after by collectors of British Empire coins, not just those of Canada, as this piece is very rare.

I'm also happy about getting on the silver board as well, with my first seated dime!

Happy hunting!

Very nice finds...the seated has some great details.
Finding coins of that age is special.

Congrats on your awesome finds! The detail on the seated dime is awesome! The rare Magdalen Is. Penny token is a fantastic find! You had a very good day, and the finds were practically popping out of the ground for you, guess they don't like being in that cold ground and want to spend winter inside! Lol!

Nice finds. Don't find too many seated coins up our way.
ZDD

Found a Magdellan earlier this summer---nice coin---rare also.

Mine was in poor shape also...but much better shape than yours...Rick found one also few weeks ago---really nice shape....all depends on soil i guess..
