So an hour ago I made my trip downstairs to the local Chipotle as I was feinding for a post-Christmas burrito. I ordered, and got to the cashier, took out my wallet and was about to whip out my debit card when I remembered that I had a nice crispy $50 in there from Christmas. I paused and thought, "hmm, i could get a lot of change back if I paid for things with this $50." So I gave her the bill, and noticed right away there was a wheatie in the pile of 73 cents! I showed it to my colleague who gave me a semi sarcastic, "awesome" and we went back to the office. Back at my desk now, I took out the change and was so shocked to see a dark weird looking coin in the pile. Its a mercury! What are the chances of that!? A wheatie and a merc as change. I have hunted all year with the Garrett to find my first merc and all I had to do was pay cash for a burrito!

YOWZA!!!! I found a merc crh'ing earlier this fall, but I've never received one in change. My oldest coin has to be the '40 wheatie I got at Burger King about a month ago. GREAT SCORE!!!

However,I could be swayed to rule the other direction,a burrito ought to cover it.... ;D

i want a merc in change -- $2.00 + worth of silver --score!!! I would not even mind a wheatie in change -- I once scored a 1915 wheatie out of the pick a penny / leave a penny dish -- I traded a crappy zinc cent for it ;D :icon_thumright:

we were talking to a coin collector in town here and he told us that he got 09 VDB S wheat from a lady who found it in change at a gas station. he then sold it for $1000 :icon_thumright:

I was tired of having such an ugly merc so I took some silver cleaner to it and damn she is a beauty! I doubt anyone would have used it at the burrito shop if it had been this clean.

Depends on whether or not I had my glasses on....

I went to work one day long ago with one pocket full of silver digs and one full of clad and went to the vendoteria. Long story short I noticed the clear silver rim of one of the last of the four quarters I had put in and hit the change return..

'nuff said.

No, I bring my own lunch these days.

Great eye to catch the silver lady.

Nice score on the merc and wheatie! :icon_thumright:
Years ago I used to work as a cashier in a liquor store and used to find Indians, mercs and silver quarters, dimes, etc. Alot of those old coins were brought in by mexican customers, so I figured it maybe was money their parents had saved up years ago to give them then they came up here. I also remember getting old silver certificates too. You never know when they'll turn up.
