Would the Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger be a good detector on the beach.

It will work OK, but it wouldn't be my first choice. A machine with a larger coil such as the ACE 250 with the large coil would make a much better beach machine. However, the Scorpion does have a TR mode, which would allow it to punch into wet salted sand. The sensitivity on all VLF metal detectors has to be turned down to operate satisfactorily in wet salt sand.
