Last weekend I went camping with the scouts. We went to an old scout camp opened in 1951. It no longer operates as a summer camp, but units can use it for weekends and we hold Camporees there sometimes. I have done a,or of detecting there over the years, but have not been back there to detect for a long time.
While the boys were fishing in the lake I had a chance to do some dirt fishing for 2 hours. They didn’t catch anything, but I did manage to find 20 coins with a face value of $1.11 and an older style neckerchief slide (It has a heavy plating and is in really good shape), a sinker and a couple of bullets. I had hoped I might get lucky and pull an old silver, but no luck.
When we got back to our campsite I took a half hour to find and pull some extra heavy pegs that were used around the concrete pads in the site used by the disabled scout troop. I managed to find 29 pegs and a hand made peg hammer. It is very heavy and the handle is made from a bolt and can be unscrewed.
Today I had a chance to go back to campus and detected for 5 hours. I am gridding and cleaning up sections I have already wandered over several times before on my way to and from other sections. I managed to find 75 coins with a face value of $5.48, a junky earring, a micro machine and a nice 1928 merc dime. My first merc of 2019 and only the second silver coin this year.
A couple more good hunts with gas money and some neat finds. Tomorrow I am starting a new yard at a nice old house on Main Street. I have had my eye on it for a while and finally managed to knock on the door and ask permission. The nice old couple said ok so I will start tomorrow and see what is hiding under the grass.
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
