Howdy Folks, I got permission from a farmer about detecting some of his fields last Christmas Eve. I went to one of the fields a couple weeks ago to locate where the house used to be. I located the spot and a lot of iron is an understatement. I scratched around a bit and dug some trash but had to leave. I made my way back Friday for a couple hours. For some reason, I didn't have a good feeling about this place. Maybe I knew there was a lot of iron in the ground. A lot of trash to be dug. I don't know, I just wasn't motivated about the site. I got started and in the fourth hole, I dug an IHC. Couldn't get a date off it so I moved on. The sixth hole I pulled another IHC and I knew it was a fatty. These coins were four or five feet apart. My ninth hole I pulled a shield nickel. That's two coins from the 1860's in minutes. Talk about going from one end of the mood spectrum to the other. I made a couple more passes across the area digging trash. I then get a nice solid 82 six inches down. I'm thinking maybe a seated dime. That would be nice. When I got it out of the hole and saw that it was big, round and green. I knew exactly what it was. My first Large Cent and I couldn't be more excited. I've been on the hunt for one for almost a year now. This one is wiped smooth but I can make out the One Cent on the reverse. I kept going for another hour or so finding a couple more IHC's. No silver to be had on this hunt but still happy with the finds. Since I'm finding sites of the time period. I'm thinking the half dime will be in my crosshairs to find. As usual, I've kept you long enough. Best of luck on your hunts. SD
