Definitely pottery shards that have been polished by wave action just like lake glass. Pottery really isn't something I know about so I can't help with dating, but there are some here who might be able to help

Figured I would try to give this one a bit of a push-does anyone have any experience with sea glass?
Thanks

Hey autograph,

Welcome to this place, and, yes, I've a modicum of sea glass experience. What you have found appears to be sea pottery, or sea crock. The one that looks like a creamer's pouring lip has some art nouveauish fillips. Very tough to date tiny well worn shards such as this, absent a makers mark or recognizable pattern...

What do you do with them?

Thank You!
While it cant be dated-would you be able to guess to if it was from the 1900's or 1800's?
Even a general assumption would be helpful :)
Thanks again

Hey autograph,

Gonna push me into a corner, eh? Okay, okay, my best guess is late 19th - early 20th Century, roughly the Art Nouveau period. The piece with the what appears to be Albany Slip interior could well be older.

Are these random beach finds or from a concentrated area?

Hi Surf
These are random beach finds in Lake Michigan. I find a lot of bottle glass but these are the only "pottery" that I found so far. I wonder how these got there if it is pottery? Interesting :)

Hey autograph,

There's been loads of Lake traffic for ages. Got substantial contributions there, plus the old stupid human trick of "Let's throw it in the lake, river, or other fresh water sources, or dump along the banks" maneuver.

Hi Surf
I looked up the Albany Slip piece-very interesting! For my piece-it is glazed only on one side-the brown color. From what I can tell-it may have been a vase or a jug?

At first I thought that it was clay tile but looks more porcelain than clay so you may be right :)

I know that dating these can be a challenge so thanks for any input you could provide on this one. How far back do these go? What were they actually used for?
