Hi All My Fellow TH'ers
I wanted to introduce myself to you without being to formal about itl.
I have been a TH'er since 1976 when I purchased my first metal detector; a Jetco, Mustang. I think the price tag was $29.99 or $39.99 at Montgomery Wards (you can tell this was some time back as MW's is no more!). I have tried about a dozen detectors in my days but have settled on Whites. I currently use the DFX and have the XLT as my backup detector. I search mostly for Civil War relics but searching for coins will also be OK with me. I have searched from California to New Jersey, Louisiana, to Michigan. I have also searched in Canada and Germany and hope to one day go to England and partake of one of those Treasure hunts (just a bit expensive for me right now). I currently do most of my TH'ing in Virginia as there are so many places to search it is difficult to decide where to begin. I have two TH'ing buddies and as long as the weather is not extreme (too hot or too cold) I have company to share time with. I belong to a Treasure hunting Club, 'Loudon County Historic Preservation Society'. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month and have a show and tell. Best finds of the month are given for coin, Relic, Jewelry (nice to win $5 for a great find). I am a firm believer in digging up every signal, recycling everything that is not a keeper, I sell my scrap metals, and covering up my holes. I share my search sites finds with anyone that is willing to look at my pictures. I have no problem knocking on doors to ask permission and always tell the owner what it is that I plan to do. I will often times invite the owner or their Child(ren) to join me/us as I carry my XLT as a spare (I have yet to need to resort to my spare as Whites have yet to fail me in the field. Most of the times when I have detector problems it is my own fault for not packing spare batteries(or carrying old used batteries that were near death from a prior TH'ing expedition). Check out the attached pictures to see some of the wonderful items located in the previous year. I travel for fun and sometimes for business but I almost always take my Whites DFX with me in the Whites hard case. I look more like a business person when I walk through the airport with my Whites detector in hand. I have only been asked what I had in the Whites hard case once and never has anyone asked me to open the case to look at it.
Have fun, Enjoy, be safe and share your pictures with others that appreciate the finds.
