Found this, along with an ox shoe and 1889 Seated Dime, about 200’ from a mid-19th Century cellar hole in Massachusetts. I used electrolysis and finished with air tool oil. I’m thinking a tool to hew logs...sound about right?

I'm thinking a mattock or hoe.

It looks to me to be too light weight to be an adz. I'm thinking grubbing hoe.

Ahh, true. It is rather thin. When it first came out of the ground, my first thought was a small hoe-like thing. After looking online for a bit, the shape matched some sort of hew, but it may not be robust enough for that. I shall look up grubbing hoe.

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas... sorry I couldn't resist. :laughing7:

Nice find AJ, yours looks to be an early blacksmith-made example.
