Nice plates. That thing works pretty well for a classic radioshack metal detector that is worth $60-$70.

I just found a 1948 ohio plate tonight. When they are that rusted you might get by with lightly sandblasting them, if the metal if firm enough. If they are badly rusted then sandblasting them would blast through. I believe license plates are mixed with mixed metals, but not possitive. When I look at the new ones they appear to be rust resistant. As for the old, ??? They would look good restored for sure.

Does anybody know if Electrolysis is a good option, I had one buddy recommend it.

Wow 1932 very neat find. Not sure if cleaning is a good thing.

Very nice finds..
A while back someone on here found some old plates too.
They were pretty far gone like yours are.
Another Tnet member posted a link to someone that restores these old plates.
Makes them look like new.
I would not use electrolysis, the rust is too deep.
They need to be sanded down or something.
Anyway I hope someone else reading this will remember the post I am talking about and pastes a link.

Try Naval Jelly. Works good on rusty beer cans I find. Let's put it this way, You're not going to hurt them anymore than the environment already has.
