Shallow Water MD'ing Question

Hi all. Quick question I need some quick input on. Going to a swim beach this weekend and wanted to check the water up to about calf deep for jewelry. Suddenly realized I don't know if you can do that with just any MD. I have an MXT and like I said I would only be getting it wet up to the first joint, (It's winter time in Colorado and I don't think I would want to reach any deeper than that!). Are all coils waterproof? Is this a good thing to do? All replies appreciated~CO2

Re: Shallow Water MD'ing Question

CO2, I believe detector coils are waterproof up to connector however if tere are any abrasions to coil lead, that can let water in. But I use strictly a land detector and have had no problem shallow water hunting. Just don't drop it when U find a 1 ct. + diam. ring. HH! and Good Luck!

Re: Shallow Water MD'ing Question

Hey there CO2. Finally figured out this system.. I have a Whites QXT Pro & a DFX. Whites says that all their newer model detectors are water resistant up to the control box. I used mine in the Columbia River yesterday & again today. Have used them at the beach as well & never a problem. Have fun! Spotz

Re: Shallow Water MD'ing Question

Hey thanks Spotz & Stone. I needed someone to give me a little nerve. The last thing I wanted to do after finally getting my machine was to take it out and fry it! I appreciate the quick responses and I'll let you know how I do~CO2

Re: Shallow Water MD'ing Question

you could always wrap a trash bag around the coil and up the shaft..

Re: Shallow Water MD'ing Question

take some HOT GLUE, or Liquid Plastic & waterproof the wire where it enters the coil. ( THIS IS JUST A PRECAUTION I LEARNED YEARS AGO ) it's not necessary, but dosn't hurt.
