Shell fused to mass

Found creek walking today. I believed it to be a recent clam shell attached to the fossil mass. I tried thumbing it off. It’s very solid; didn’t break or pop off. I’m guessing it’s been on there a looooong time.

Are you sure it's a clam shell?
The grain looks more like a shelf fungus. 🤓

I had to choose. Went with shell. A fungus could very well be.👍🏼
