Dug my 2nd Shield nickel today in an area where the Overland Trail passed through.
After some careful cleaning I determined it is an 1867 model.

Nice coin, and in decent shape. Such an interesting coin, and one I don't see posted often. Yet to dig one myself...

This was found in St. Louis.

I was surprised by the condition of this one. My 1866 was in such cruddy shape I was only able to ID the year from the rays between the stars.
 

Sweet find! You do not see many of those "popping" out of the ground. :occasion14:
