I have been waiting since last week to get out and hunt again, tonight was the night. Went back to the CW camp site that I found the three ringer at last week. found a percussion cap right off and some of the little round items in the picture. In the same hole, not sure what they are. Came across an area about the size of a 5 gallon bucket where there was lots of the "shrapnel" pictured. Appears to be made of copper or brass. Not sure. Then I found some lead too.
A few mintues later I get a sweet sounding signal 8 inches deep and out pops the button! My second CW button but it is in much better shape than my first. I think there is writing on the back but it is in bad shape and I don't want to risk cleaning it anymore than I have. All I did was use a soft nylon bristled tooth brush to knock the dirt off the button. Also found the "rivet" right next to the hole for the button at about the same depth.
Found a lipstick tube as well. I got a call from the wife and my daughter had 102.9 Temp so I had to pack it in. Too bad because tonight was a GREAT night for a hunt. Perfect weather, no bugs, and lots of diggable signals.
The other Item I think is a button piece as well. It would have been a plain front button about the size of a quarter if it was all there. The second pic has an area circled in red where you can see that the item was rounded and would have most likely been hollow like a button.
Thanks for looking.
