I took Steve to a well know and very hard hunted park. It was the site of Zagony's charge. Zagony led 145 of Gen. Fremont's bodyguard into a CS camp of around 1300. The first charge they had about 14 saddles emptied.
The next charge the CS broke and ran. After this the Bodyguard ran them down and routed them, this was according to the Union account. I read a diary of a CS soldier who said they were sitting on the top of a split rail fence watching a horse race when all of a sudden they saw riders coming toward them.
Then were shocked to realize they were being shot at as well. He said the Bodyguard all had fancy uniforms and plums in their hats.
He said they were scared to death because they all looked like Sargent's!, Anyway his account was that he shot one of them and went over and got what was his in the spoils of war, taking both of his black powder pistols.as well as his saber.
He mentioned that he wasn't very big being just 15 and couldn't shoot his rifle standing up, it was to heavy for him to aim, so he rested his arm on on knee and shot him
It was great seeing Steve dig a carved bullet with the initials M. P. Steve has dug many bullets but today dug his first 69 caliber bullet today. Nice going Steve. Have a great weekend everyone, and good luck huntin! Tim
