looks like a synthetic citrine

Take it to a ''jeweler'' who has a stone hardness tester. They can then tell you what the stone may be. Good Luck!

Jeweler: Someone who knows no more than you, but like an umpire, it's a stone or it isn't. Why? Because they said so. LOL! :)

That way, THEY are the ONLY ones that "know". ;)

Thanks! It does and it it also looks like a real stone. Just wondered how to tell.

the reason I say it's synthetic is that I have a hard time believing they would put a natural stone in a gold plated ring. of course I'm just looking at a picture. a genuine stone would most certainly have small flaws or inclusions that can be seen with the use of a loupe

I'd be more interested in verifying the 18k gold than worrying about the stone. Who in their right mind would put a fake stone in an 18k gold ring?

My two wheaties worth. Nice ring.

Mariposa Gold

for those that dont know
HGE = heavy gold electroplate
a stone like that in actual 18k could be orange topaz
or citrine
citrine is semi precious stone and they would put it in a
HGE back then just as they would amethyst
I would date the ring between 50's and early 70's maybe
I ve seen small diamonds in gold plated rings and have found real diamonds in silver
get it checked by a good jeweler - if stone is a good one - you could always have removed and put into something better
it could just be glass too - but usually glass - the edges will have small nicks and scratches

Yep. I knew that it's just the "stone" in this one is REALLY pretty. It looks orange and not so good in the pic because I suck at taking pictures. :)

And, I'm not really against jewelers per se, I just had a bad experience with one. I took a suspected diamond to him and he poo poo-ed it as just a bad fake. But, he had a project in mind to make a cheap ring for his daughter's 6th birthday. Offered me 10 bucks. I said no thanks, looks good in my collection. Turns out it was not only real but I sold it to another jeweler for 500. :)

Thanks!
