Hello Everyone,

I found this a couple of weeks ago out near Hampton Butte in Oregon. I’m an avid rockhounder and have been finding a lot of interesting items. This is by far the most significant thing I’ve ever found. I would like to know what it was used for and what time period it’s from. Thank you!

First of all, welcome to T net from Iowa.
Very interesting rock. I’ve seen nothing similar in any of my treks.
Hopefully someone will supply some insight.
Thanks for posting.👍🏼

Congrats on a very interesting find !
Welcome to TNet and Good Hunting !

could this be fired clay? the image looks impressed not chipped out, and the red color screams fired natural clay. But your image does look like a rock ...

It looks to me like it’s clay or some type of concrete (?) that was cast around a board that had 2 nails pounded into it. The material is very consistent with no inclusions or cracks.
