Metal Detecting
Ran a new waterline for a friends home and he allowed me to come back on Friday. He said since I had already dug the yard up, a few more holes couldn’t hurt. Dug a Walking half, a Washington quarter, 2 mercs, a beat up ring and several wheat pennies.
The next day I dug 28 silvers at a paid seeded hunt put on by NC Dirt Detectives. Met some good folks at the hunt and had a blast.
After the seeded hunt a few of us did some door knocking. I squeaked out one more Rosie and this torch thing. I thought it was a button but the back has a threaded stud. Anybody have any idea what that is? 01D2FF10-FB7D-485A-8A2D-7015DE24AAB8.webp2612434E-79BF-4FB4-AEB7-C538DA4BB0DB.webp7CBFF810-D778-424D-8CE6-AFC79B7BDCFB.webp62D1E82E-A503-4976-A2A8-93B528FB0C22.webp057C1CF4-C7E3-41B7-9C05-0C4B854BFD06.webp

Very Nice Hunt by the waterline!!!!! Congrats on All three hunts!!!!

I think it's a WW! collar insignia from a member of the signal corp. The military experts will probably chime in and rap my knuckles for being wrong though! :laughing7:

I've had years where I didn't find that much silver- seeded or not- Big time Congrats!!

Yes indeed congratulations..well said ..Thanks for sharing

That's just incredible. Nice job!
Congratulations!

Collar insignia yes, but not Signal Corps. It’s from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). The ROTC is a collective group of college and university based officer training programs which generate commissioned officers for the US Armed Forces.

There are numerous variations in style which I don’t know how to date but I believe those with a very straight handle to the torch (as opposed to a tapering shape, like an ice-cream cone) might be WWI.

Dang thats some serious coinage. I really need a day half that good.Keep em coming

These are said to be WWI (despite a tapering handle) but that's an eBay seller's assessment with no attribution (and of course WWI sells better than WWII):

Great find, and nice ID by Red-Coat. He is correct, as I have found the same Collar Insignia, and had researched it.

Thank you for the information. The home is old enough for it to have been WWI

Nice haul my friend !!!

Nice haul for sure! What's the story with that 1893-s Morgan though?

They had some tokens buried at the seeded dig. Those could be returned for prizes. That’s how I got it but it says copy on it and it doesn’t weight enough to be silver. It’s 14.5 grams. A real one is around 26. I think the confederate $5 coin is a replica too. Not sure.

This is the U.S. Army Signal Corps insignia! I was in it.
