I had time today to go back to campus and swing the CZ21 for 4.5 hours. Lately it has been hard to find more than 30 coins with a value over $2, but today I hit a better spot.

I managed to find 59 coins with a face value of $4.34, 2 keys, some metal screw in spikes and elastic bandage fasteners (both of these things are a real pain because they sound like small jewelry or small round balls and are just junk), a military ribbon minus the pin back, a small silver toe ring, a broken Grateful Dead pendant, and an old Maryland testing pin. The military ribbon looks like it could be a Purple Heart ribbon, but it does not match the ones I found on line so I’m not sure. If anyone can give a positive identification it would be appreciated.

The Grateful Dead pendant is slightly mashed and is missing its loop. You can see the stub of it on the top. The testing pin is really eaten up, but I have found a half dozen over the years in much better shape so i could see enough to recognize the Maryland seal in the center for a positive ID.

The little toe ring gave a mid tone signal and I thought I had a small piece of can slaw. It’s marked 825 and when I checked on line info came up that it was a 19k gold mark. Well I tested it and it is NOT gold. It is just a lower purity silver ring. The lower silver content, the small size and the shape account for the mid tone. Silver usually is a high tone on the CZ. I have learned that depth, shape of the metal, ground position (flat or on edge), and deterioration of the metal all effect the signal you get from the detector. That is the reason I dig so many iffy and mid tone signals. You get more trash but you don’t miss the nickels, eaten up zinc pennies, deep deteriorated coins and the other goodies like this ring.

So today was a better hunt. Silver has been scarce lately so it was a nice bonus. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
