Went out to the coal camp for a few hours today. Found a few pieces of scrip, a debossed Dr pepper bottle from the 20s-30s, a GEM razor, and a few other odds and ends.

I was swinging my way back to the truck, about to call it a day, and caught a signal to my right. Dug a wheatie, checked the hole and got another. Those were followed by two more wheaties, then I got a signal several inches to the left of the others. I fished around with my recently acquired pinpointer (love it) and hit a nice merc! My first silver in years, since I found the walking liberty on my first hunt. I checked the area again and got yet another signal. Did some more digging and popped up a very worn type 2 standing liberty quarter! No visible date, unfortunately. After some celebration, I checked it again and popped out another wheatie. After that, the hole dried up. 40c total, and the end of my silver drought. Love it!

After some cleaning, I was able to get some dates on the wheaties: 1920, 28, 29, 35, and 41. The merc is a 1938. Is there any way I can reveal a date on the quarter? I've thought about maybe a light acid (I've used olive oil in the past) but don't want to cause any damage.

I'll put more pics up of the bottles and other stuff after they're cleaned up.

Very nice!!! Congrats on the silver!

grats woo hoo.

Awesome Silver... the SLQ looks like a Type #2 w/ 4 star's under the Eagle ... The date is gone forever and is worth whatever Scrap is today or what someone is willing to Pay You for it. As for Me Silver Coins are almost Priceless , as they are worth more to Me than just Scrap , H.H.:skullflag:

I feel like Gman about my silver coins, I want to hand them down to my son. I found a SLQ with no date I remember finding something on the net about putting something on the coin to pull a date, the way I remember it, it would discolor it afterwards. I'm happy to keep mine knowing it ranged from 1917 - 1923 (or something like that) there is a website on how to date a SLQ, here is the link.

Great finds for you, that Merc is a beauty.

Great finds Digger! Thanks for sharing...

Nice silvers! date or not, SLQ's are getting much harder to find. Congrats and happy hunting!

You can use Nic-A-Date on Buffs but I don't know of any way to pull the date on a worn silver. It's just to soft and the strike is not there anymore. We used to trash a lot of Buffalos as kids playing with that juice. Lol
