well i ended up going to the one of the oldest towns in my state today the first gold discovered in Nevada was here. i didn't go by choice i actually had to go to traffic court because deputy billy bob wrote me a speeding ticket for 5 over. ::) anyway after court i decided to swing by an old mill of some sort that ran during the mid to late 1800's i found some weird stuff in a small clearing. i didn't take pictures of all of it but i will tomorrow. but the 2 things i did find that are bugging me are these two chunks of metal. they were about 4 inches under the dirt and another 3 inches under some leaves and twigs. i took them out of the ground no corrosion on them what so ever just some discoloration i took my knife and was able to shave some pieces off. as you now know they are very soft pieces of metal. the small piece will bend quite easily. now i am guessing they are pieces of lead but i was hoping maybe something else like silver ;D that would be nice. they are quite heavy so I'm thinking lead. but if there are any people out there that might know i would love to see what you think. oh there was also a slight tint of red on the surfice of both pieces. sorry about the pics the batteries in my camera are dead and i had to use the wife's camera its not that great. thanks again

Looks like aluminum slag just from the pics? Monty

thats good to know the site i was at i was digging up alot of old relics some which looked like old wagon parts and old brakets for things. i only got to spend about 45 min out there but in just that short time i found about 12 things. i will go back probably this weekend.

that makes sense because in the same hole i pulled these out of there where charred pieces of wood. i figured there was a structure there at one time that possibly burned down. come to think of it one of the nearby trees was a little dark on the side facing the clearing looked like it got really hot at one point int time.

Ima gonna have to agree with Monty. It is a much to shiny "silverish" in color to be lead.....more than likely aluminum slag like Monty said...Probably from a can thrown into a fire. You can see this stuff EVERYWHERE when you go to a campground.

Lead is a more dull shade of silver, almost grey when it hardens...I have DUG enough to last a lifetime in the Civil War sites and woods that I hunt. Plus, lead gets a old patina to it after being in the ground awhile.

Either way though, it isnt Silver. Sorry my friend :-[ :-\

Yeah, it's lead. I can tell by the way it looks and by the way it melted. I have also dug a lot of it.

If it's heavy I'd have to say lead.

I found something similar at the Eldorado
gold mine in Nevada. Turned out to be
aluminum. Very light.
