Went to a local pawn shop to browse and found no silver in their display case. I did find a couple of mint sets........1995 and 1997. They were marked at $10........I offered $7.50 for each and the owner accepted. That was my ice breaker. We began discussing the lack of silver in his display case and he informed me he had a couple of "regular" buyers, but he lamented that they were only interested in 90% coins. I let him know that I had no objections to purchasing 40% silver. He said he would consider putting me at the top of his list..........
My question........I know that the 90% multiplier for scrap silver dealers/buyers is accepted at 0.715, but I cannot find any similar multiplier for 40% or 35% coins. My math gives me a 40% multiplier at around 0.14. That doesn't seem to be correct, to me...........I am also aware of the current 12 to 14 times face for 90%........which should translate to approximately 5 to 6 times face for 40%...............
Does anyone have any information to aid me? It would be helpful for doing quick math when opportunity knocks.........

If you have an I phone, there's an app called the AG Silver Calculator that I've found pretty helpful to know if you're getting a good deal on 90% and 40% silver coins.

Found some additional information..........can anyone verify?

Melt Value (90%) = Face X 0.7234 X Spot
Melt Value (90% Silver Dollars) = Face X 0.77344 X Spot
Melt Value (40% Kennedy) = Face X 0.2958 X Spot
Melt Value (40% Ike Dollar) = Face X 0.3161 X Spot
Melt Value (War Nickels) = Face X 1.1252 X Spot

These multipliers are actual weight contents at the time coins were minted/circulated...........the wear rate is taken into consideration when "real world" factors are taken into account..........hence the 0.7234 for most 90% coinage is changed to 0.715 for scrap silver calculations.

Still looking for more information.............
