Today was a good day. Went to an old football field from the 1930s, hoping to find a silver coin or two. I ended up with a pocket full of clad, on wheaties which I dont know what date yet, what looks to be the casing from an old pocket watch (best guess anyway), and this, the last signal of the day, i was walking over to my father in law with my coil parallel to the ground, like I always do until I leave the field, and I got a hit about 5 inches down, showing a 12 46 on the target I'd for the etrac. Thinking it was another clad quarter, or suspecting anyway, I got surprised with this. I hope everybody had a good day today. Its raining hard now so I dont know if I will get to go tomorrow. I will have to check the forecast. There is some silver at that field, I just got to get my coil over it.

Happy hunting... 20200111_190820.webp20200111_180558.webp

Nice Find! The second item resembles a women's makeup compact of yesteryear, similar to several I have found.

Thanks. I thought it might be. Did you tumble yours to get the green patina off? Thinking about tumbling it...

Soak it in some cheap, white vinegar for a few hours, then rub with baking soda, rinse, and repeat if necessary.

Nice finds. Congratulations :icon_thumright:

On various machines silver sits right next to or overlaps quarters and what a surprise and find!

Went back yesterday to the same spot. We hunted a few hours, my father in law dug a silver band ring, and I found another wheat so crusted you cant get a date off of it, and this what I think is a french 50 centimes from 1916. It has been drilled to be a charm of sorts. I thought it was a us silver dime at first, then I saw the too of the image on the front of the coin as the dirt hid the rest of it. At first glance it looked like a seated, but I am very happy. The first centime I have dug, not the first French coin though.
That football field will continue to give up goodies for awhile. It appears that if it was hunted, it wasnt hunted with a real good machine. We have walked only 3 lines from end to end, and have 3 silvers, a couple of wheats and a bunch of clad off of it so far. We are going to grid it and see what we can get from it.20200112_191752.webp20200112_191732.webp
