I made another trip to campus swingin the CZ21. I have been doing most of my detecting here lately because of social distancing and a lot of my other sites are closed, restricted or out of state and we are supposed to stay close to home for now. I didn’t feel like digging a lot of trash today so I worked around the edges of a parking area and some sidewalks, cherry picking the high tones and some promising mid tones.
I did manage to find 112 coins with a face value of $4.30, a brass flag clip, 2 keys, 2 vaping parts, a mystery brass piece, a cheapy pendant, a sterling ring, a Disney pin/pendant, a civil war bullet, a 1982 graduation key from a local high school and a Jaycee pin. The Jaycee pin is dated 1979. It is badly mangled and looks like it commemorates the 1979 Maryland Jaycees trip to Gothenburg Sweden and features Miss Sweden.
The sterling Mickey Mouse pendant/pin was a firm high tone at 2 inches. It was designed as a pendant and had a nonsilver pin back added to it.
The ring was a faint high tone in high grass. It was down about 6 inches and was on its edge in the plug. It is sterling and was made by the Uncas company. The jewelers mark indicates it was made between the 1920’s and 1988 if the information on line is correct. It was found just off the edge of the parking lot. The edges of the ring are dented pretty badly indicating it may have been run over by a vehicle and possibly scooped up by the snow plow that cleared the parking lot. Due to the location and the terrain I believe most of the finds on that edge of the lot got there by way of the snow plow.
The civil war bullet is a .54 caliber minie ball. Not nearly as common as the .58 caliber. It is a damaged drop, in good shape except for some dents at the base from the rocks in the hard packed soil by the sidewalk where it was found.
The mystery item appears to be brass and looks like it may have been fastened to a piece of leather. Some kind of harness decoration perhaps. There are no markings on it so I cannot be sure if it is a modern loss or a piece of history from the old farm. Anyone who can help determine the age of this one please feel free to comment.
Today was a good day with silver, history and gas money. Thanks for looking, stay safe and keep swingin if you can get out.
