Hand cut silver Star with two square nail holes punched in it. There are many period photos showing Texas soldiers with these Stars used as hat devices or sewn to jackets. Found in Louisiana where there was a courthouse that the Yankees burned down. In the OR (offical records) there is documentation that Texas troops were camped there. Site is now a ploughed field.

that is a historic find...congrats!

Congrats! Impressive find and impressive research to put yourself in the right spot.

Now that is one really cool find! Liking the piece a lot, what era do the stars date back to?

Civil War, haven't heard if any earlier. Some were manufactured or made by jewellers, this one was obviously hand made
