Minelab Safari with SEF 8x6; coming soon: FORS Gold+
I drove my wife to work today to Pasadena and so I had quite a few hours to go play around with the Silver uMax & stock coil. Hit a park that dates to the thirties and nabbed a very nice '41 merc. Ahh, that broke my silver dry spell! I just had to give the Lord thanks for that. I also got the '46 wheat and a '51 nickel (not pictured).

I then got to talking with one the park guys and showed him the merc I found when I realized I was WAY LATE for picking up my wife and taking her to a meeting. I don't know if you've ever seen a grown man run through a park with a detector in his hands, but I'm sure I looked either retarded or had just struck the motherlode. Anyhow, I drove halfway there when I checked the message on my cell phone that I left in the car...it was my wife! I thought I was in deep trouble but the message said her meeting had been changed for an hour later. WHEW!!

So I head over to check out some city easements and found one in front of a house that was both vacant and for sale, where I nabbed the 1919 wheat but nothing else. Went to pick up the wife and then after dropping her off I headed over to another part of town to search for an easement, and found one in front of an old vacant house. A few memorials later and I nailed my first TAX TOKEN, and it is a cutie! I almost couldn't figure out what it was after I dug it...it was just too small to be a penny but it was definitely a coin. After rubbing the dirt off I began to see NEW MEXICO BUREAU OF REVENUE, 1935 on the front, and EMERGENCY SCHOOL TAX PURCHASE ON TWENTY FIVE CENTS, TAX TOKEN, FIVE MILLS. I consider this my most interesting find so far this year, well, next to my SLQ of course.

Here's a good link to some history of the state tax tokens in case you're interested:http://www.taxtoken.org/faq.htm

Hilarious Ray! :D :D :D I can just picture that. This hobby is addicting for sure. I too like to stretch my hunts out as long as I can without getting a tongue lashing from my better half. ::)
Congrats on the silver, and that is one cool tax token for sure.

Ray, nice mercs and great token! Tokens are one of my favorite things to find. I detect in San Diego, if you're ever in the area, give a shout. - Jim

Thanks everyone! It just feels good to see silver popping out of the ground again after a month or so of a dry spell. And the token just topped it all off. Makes one wonder, though, what it was doing here in California where it couldn't be used.

Ziphius, thanks. I will definitely let you know next time I'm in San Diego!! I've only been down there once (not for metal detecting) and so it would be a great help going detecting with someone who knows the area.

In late July 1935 New Mexico issued its tokens in 11 states (including Ca) that it had held awaiting the US government resolution.
