In general 1964 was the last year for silver minting of quarters and dimes. Nickels I believe had some silver content during WWII but will have to research that. A great site for researching American coins is www.oldcoinshop.com/coinhistory/index.php. Happy New Year and HH!

the easiest way to KNOW if your nickle is silver, look on the back above the dome. IF there is a large P,D,or S it is a "35% Silver" war nickle. DATES: 1942 to 1945 except 1942-D

Did you know that there is more silver (by weight) in 2 war nickels than in a silver dime?

I had to do the math on that one ;D BK ; war nickels were 35% silver, Dimes .900. HOWEVER, 2 War Nickels have .11252 OZ of silver total, while a Dime has .07234 OZ of silver. VERY GOOD :D jeff
