Wife and I found a 10K with a sideways M ring at church across the street where the old walkway was in some photos we seen in our research.

Pretty heavy ring with nice shield wording and eagles on the sides where band is.

I'm nowhere near an expert and can't get pictures up for few days but I take it to be military?

I'm a bit stunned that it might be gold ? We don't know nothing about this sorta thing at all. Just very excited. It weighs about 13 grams.

Did we finally find something notable ?

Hey midnight, sounds like a really interesting find! I too can't wait to see the pics! I guess you climbed back up the tree and recovered you machine? I'm really glad to hear your still swinging the coil! Can't wait to see your ring! Happy hunting!

Army ? During or Post civil war group of patriots.

Dude.....can't wait for pics!!! Fingers are crossed.

Sounds like maybe an old Marine corps ring...Anything on the inside that shows signs of markings?

I just got back from a jewelers house. lol . I not beyond knocking on a door to get some info...

Guess it's 245th infantry WWII or something like that she stated.

Little over 13 grams and she stated that it had nickel in it as well and only probably 5-6 grams of gold. Asked me if I was selling it ... I stated No as I don't know nuttin about such things.

The inside markings say 10k W (the W being turned clockwise)

Pretty stoked ... Also found a small tag that says R A A Champs 1936-37 with markings G.F. on back. Not sure if it a Bowling Bag tag from a bag or a necklace pendant or if it gold or brass or what it is.

2 pennys and a rusted small washer and some can salad 1 pulltab. We came home across the street after the ring of course.

Pics will take a few days - weekend before they get up but will post again when I get them up.

Today was a good Day.

G.F means Gold Filled, its better than Gold Plate but still a form of plating.

Keep @ it and HH!!

10k is 10k. That is the standard usually in military and class rings. They make them of that because it is more of an alloy and not the softer pure gold. Those types of rings need to be stronger. The design of Eagles on both sides of the band is typical of WWI and WWII type military rings. Most were made of silver but some gold ones do exist. You will find that Eagles were used not only in American Military rings but also many other countries including Germany.

Pro Patria Armamus seems to be a motto associated with some New York National Guard Units which would tend to make me believe that your ring is WWI vintage.

Here is an example of a WWI Gold 10k ring from an American Machine Gun Unit.

Thanks for the info . I had narrowed it down to NY maybe Brookyln even because of the 13 but that's about the furthest I've gotten tonight. Thought I might find a pic online somewhere but no go .

Was wondering ... How much closer does this put me towards a new detector ? How many of these rings does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop ? I almost don't know what to do with it . It kinda Gaudy lookin but I realize it must of meant something to someone.

Looks like you did hit something my friend. With a simple detector.

If its 10k gold you do the math and just pray i got it right.

You should end up with about 5.417 grams of gold.

13 grams at 41.67% gold = 5.417

at 28.74 per gram you would have

28.74 X 5.417 = 155.68

That should be right around its melt value.

Thats almost a ace 250.. But then again you need to think thats a WWII ring. Could be worth more to a collector.

Ive been told lot sof times the melt value is normaly the value of the gold because the price goes up when its crafted.

What did that lady offer you?

Wife says No can sell. If it worth that much today it be worth more when kids go to college. She kinda stunned me as that wasn't part of the agreement on the finds and the getting a new detector..."Plus Fathers day is comming" So we'll see how it plays out.

The lady offered me $80 or $120 store credit

Even thou it worth more .... I still like my buttons & stirrup alot more.

It nice to see the "toy" has changed "It's" attitude. Maybe that alone time is what it needed.

"She" don't owe me nuttin anymore ... oh baby
"She" don't owe me nuttin anymore ... oh baby

I did buy it at Dicks so with the tax and all I might have covered it with Ring and Clad so far.

Not bad Not bad. . Pretty decent hobby that didn't take to long to recoup initial investment ... and the time is well well spent with the family. I loseing some weight , more active , feel better about myself .. and less depressed in general.

Good Deal .

You people are the best.

Trust me. It can have its ups and downs. I guess its allways up if you look at it right but i took this last week off and spend 3 hours a day and found probably 15 in clad. Thats what. less then 2 dollars a hour over 9 days? But heck it was fun and its got to make up for the gold i found before that. So who knows it will be on a upswing in another week.

Well it's almost eats time so we is headed to the foundation will report in when we get home. Picnic in the woods.

Thanks everyone for the kinds words and the help.

You see many more of these in Silver. I am thinking that the reason so many are not seen in gold is that the old WWI vets lived through the great depression and when times got that bad, the gold was one of the first things to go. I can see lots of these rings getting melted down back in that time. Most of your WWI vets would have been about 40 Years old at that time and smack in the middle of supporting families.
