Brief hunt yields a few keepers ....

Short hunt along what mapping would indicate was an old footpath (1899), yielded three keepers. First came the buff (the best condition I've ever had for a dig in Baltimore), then the strike plate, which I thought was a lady's or child's heel plate, at first (received some advice on-line for correct id), and then the wheat, a 1919. Not much, but still three "rescues" as Loco-Digger would say.

Happy Hunting.

Nice one , it's a keyhole escutcheon plate , strike plate is what the latch goes into .

Congrats on some nice digs. :icon_thumleft: Sweet Buffalo nickel! I've always thought they were a good-looking coin.

Thanks, Jake. Appreciate that detail. wondering about the origin of the word 'escutcheon'.

Thanks. Agreed. Design is 'classic'. The Indian's profile is one of the more realistic or 'life-like' on U.S. coinage.

That's a very vivid date nice buffalo

HEY DIG NICE BEEFALOWS ...

Well done as usual. That buffalo is just stunning... best one I have seen posted! Congrats.

I have a warm spot for Buffs. They are a really nicely designed coin!

Good job!
