Small brass container for some 5 pearls -what and why?

A while ago I found this small brass container with some 5 small pearls inside it. Why on earth does anyone carry such a thing to the beach?
Seems to be made to use as a pendant or similar. Anyone has an idea to what it really is and why?

The container looks like an ID capsule for dogs (attached to their collar with owner's contact info). Probably not a big item in the UAE.

A buddy of mine had a similar one he wore on a neck chain for nitro pills for his angina.

But why it would hold pearls? Someone's small treasure.

Ok. I only see four so I am worried I am losing touch with reality.

These are "pearls of wisdom" passed down from Mother to daughter. It is a centuries old custom going back at least a thousand years.

It's a pigeon message capsule. the secret message is in the amount of pearls sent, such as 2 pearls sent means something and in you case 4 or is it 5 ?? Has another meaning. I'm sure the meaning in the quantity of the pearls is all top secret classified information.

I am thinking stones, seeds, or grains of sand would have been able to convey a whole lot more messages than four or five pearls.
