I have had my eye on a couple of vacant homes and once in a while drive by to see if I can catch someone maybe cutting the grass. Yesterday swung by one and no one there BUT across the street a new neighbor . Stop and have a small conversation and he does indeed know a bit about the home. He tells me the owner is in a nursing home and the family maintains the grounds. I ask if I leave him my card could he possibly pass it to the family next time he sees them. I tell him I am interested in metal detecting the property . He lights up calls his wife out and tells her the story. She is dying to try metal detecting . I tell them I?d be happy to go home and grab one of spares and let them keep it for a while. Ok yes I know I?m getting a bit long lol. The couple then proceed to tell me I am welcome to detect there other ?old? home. Literally a few blocks from my home . Rush home grab my stuff and meet them at there 1920 home with a spare detector for his wife . I have found so much in the last two days it is crazy! While there both neighbors come out and we talk and I get permission to do there 1920 homes as well. Moral of the story be nice and have a good conversation with people you never know where it will lead . Today?s best find A 1940 walking Liberty Half .in my opinion the best looking US coin ever made . A bit of a white whale for me have found other half?s but this one has always escaped me. Will post more finds after tomorrow . Take care everyone

I agree ... perhaps America's most beautiful coin. Congrats on the great find!

Great story! Congrats on the silver walker... yes it is a beautiful coin! Well done

Grandma always said you,ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar!

That is a dandy, and I agree about it being a well-designed coin. Simply beautiful.

Beautiful coin! How did the guys wife do with the detecting?

Hey Claire , she is loving it. She has done well. Her first coin ever and it was Buffalo.I believe she will be hooked :)

Nice job on that Walker. I agree about the being nice part. I have gained more permissions from one neighbor than I could imagine. It only takes one good one, to help spread the word. Hint - everyone likes to know where their survey stakes are ! Volunteer to find them, in exchange for hunting the yard. Last year, I was hunting one particular yard, and ended up doing 3 more yards, because people wanted to find their survey stakes. I did find most of the stakes, and a lot of goodies for my efforts.

Great post you are so right. Congrats thats a nice one. Hope you find many more.
