I’ve posted this on a few other boards so some of you may have seen this before.

I found this on Sunday quite deep (nearly 1 foot) with the NEL Tornado at an early 1800s site a few feet from where I found an 1832 Andrew Jackson campaign token earlier in the year. Small copper head with iron stem underneath and on top. The holes on the sides do not go all the way through. The iron stem on the bottom is angled slightly forward, and the right side of the base of the stem is concave, as if it originally fit into something (a gear, a pipe, etc). I tried to capture this in the pictures.

I’ve had a few people tell me on different boards that this looks like George Washington—at first, I thought it was a joke, but looking closer, the head does have a pony tail/queue in the back, and maybe there’s a resemblance in the profile.

Some of the suggestions so far: valve stem, door knocker, finial, top of a pocket watch (a ring would attach in the holes in the sides of the head), top of a weather vane. ANY help would be appreciated. It’s an interesting piece and I’m stumped.

What is the size/dimensions of that bad boy? Hard to tell from guessing finger size.
