Found this iron relic a few days ago and now it's bugging me! I need to know what this is and what it was used for. I found it at the spot that gave up an 1816 LC and an 1870 two cent piece, but it may not be that old (or it could be older than that).

It measures 2 3/4" long and has a hole drilled in it. Any guesses would be appreciated!

Just a guess but it looks like something that would have been driven into wood or rock etc. to make a step:icon_scratch:

I think it is broken in half. I could have been a two hole hold down of sorts.

Half of a handle.. like on top of a tool box or on a cabinet?

That's a possibility. I'll try and find some pics of old shutters on homes from the 1700's and 1800's.
