I found this while hunting in NJ with Treblehunter. at a spot where coins from the 1700s thru present were found. It is made of lead and has the same pattern on both side. It doesn't have the bar through the hole, like a hem weight. It appears to be machine made. IHC for size reference... I was able to ID that.

The only guess I have is that it's a game piece.

Do you recognize it?

Nice ID on the IH. I'm sure that was a tough one... ;-)

I never get tired of seeing that lovely green patina come out of the ground.

On the lead piece...

Is made with the notch or is the notch damage?

Also, is the a design or something inbetween the hash marks?

Curious piece.

Did they use lead disks as roofing nail washers?

I know we sometimes find the lead nail head covers.

Maybe in the early days they punched a nail through a lead disk to get the same result.

If you could show the back maybe someone will see a clue there?

It is exactly the same on the front and back. I bent it just a little with my fingers, it's thin. It appears to have been made in that shape, the patina is consistent all the way around the rim.

Thanks gents!

Looks like someone hammered sinker with a drywall hammer. They have a similar pattern on their face.

Maybe someone was making a new base for a lead soldier?
