Small rectangular plate

Found at an old farmhouse. It's lightweight like aluminum. After brushing off the dirt I see some symbols and etching with black and red paint. Any idea what this fell off of?
Ok, looks like an animal etched into it? I had it upside down in first pic. I can't get the crud off.

It looks like a trinket from an old leather bracelet from a Navajo or Apache gift shop.
