It's tough to tell in the pic but the attachment does in fact straddle the belt loop rather than attach to the front. I've read that makes it an earlier variety but not certain.
OK, see what your saying. I think the WWI type that I'm thinking of which still uses the same style of head (which in fact looks more bird like than snake), doesn't straddle. Although this is the first time I've heard that. Any references?
