I found what was left of a snow bank kill site that was on the north side of the hill as it sloped steeply down about fourty feet. If there wasn't a ''jump'' to herd the buffalo over, the indians would try and herd the buffalo into a deep snow bank, bogging them down and giving them an easier way of killing them. In the photo's below are some knives and part of a possible lance point that is in two pieces. I also include an artifact which is part of a leg bone, that was used to smash open the frontal portion of the skull (buffalo) to extract the brains, which were used in tanning This tool has a different look to it as have been used more than once, and has a smoother feel to it. In digging the site I did find a yearling buffalo skull that was split open between the eyes, down towards the nasal area. I am sorry that I don't have any in situ photo's, and I didn't save the yearling skull, but I did find an adult skull. folder 2 011.webp folder 2 012.webp folder 2 013.webp folder 2 006.webp folder 2 007.webp folder 2 008.webp folder 2 014.webp folder 2 015.webp

Great information, reminds me of one of Catlins paintings where indians on snow shoes are spearing bison in a snow drift.
I wonder how many other natural traps were used such as bogs, sand dunes, natural funnels etc.

actually now that i think about it thats not really that cool same ol same ol really

Well; It it took quite some effort to dig these artifacts out, let alone get permission on a very reluctant landowner. I cannot go on the mans property anymore because someone tresspassed on the place and poached an elk ,an antelope, and several mule deer.
