I couldnt think of anything esle to say so I am going to try to strike a topic! The government had said the the cost to make a copper penny costs more than the penny it self, so then they said they were going to do away with the cents all together, then once again they changed there minds and said that they were going to continue to make the cent but go back to 1943 and make all cents out of steel again. I think this is a good idea b/c maybe it will increase the value of the 1st steel cent back in 43.

What are your feeling on this matter, shoudl they make pennies out of steel again and when is all this going to happen, as they are making 2008 pennies as we speak?

Come on gimme some FEEDBACK!! ;D

The cent is the canary in the coal mine of Inflation, the first to croak if the Fed can't control rising prices. As long as the government wants to downplay the impact of inflation (which they've been doing for the last two years), they will do nothing to the cent. Once inflation is beyond government control, then all bets are off on the survival of the cent.

Also, consider that the mining industry has a vested interest in keeping the cent alive. Mining lobbyists are working round the clock to keep the cent alive, in any composition. It's a very lucrative contract to have.

I thought that by 2009 they were going to change the look of the Lincoln cent and make some sort of Life of Lincoln series of cents. I don't follow mint news so this is just what i think i remember hearing from somewhere ;D..

But my guess is if this is somewhat true then by 2009 they would also change the base metal . I do remember reading an article where a press operator or whoever stated that since steel is way way harder than zinc it will cause the coin presses to wear out quicker, more errors maybe?

but then if china decides to build a 7 million foot tall steel tower- steel prices will soar and we will begin issuing cardboard pennies stamped in crayon.
