[soft ] leather

greetings. I could use some help. metal detecting a site occupied from the late 1820's and maybe reused for the building erie railroad in the late 1840's. as I was digging for a relic, I started digging up the remains of leather. a soft leather, unlike the hard patent shoe leather one occasionally finds. What I need is any suggestion for the preservation of this leather. thank you

dubbin / horse saddle leather conditioner. warm it a little and the leather should soak it up
