One of the bloodest battles in the Civil War lasted but a few hours and left dead soldiers from both sides laying side-by-side. Gettysburg, Antietam, and Bull Run were bad, but that small hill east of Vicksburg, Mississippi ranks right there with them in importance. Do your research at this site:

I had family killed there. GGG-Uncle Calvin Fields Dawson's Missouri Battery (CS), and Pvt. John Singleton, Company D, 6th Missouri Confederate Infantry. I have dug many times in the Champion Hill area (private land of course). Sure was a bad one.
