Went to one of my 1800's spots after some serious rain here on Long Island to see if I could hear any deep targets. Boy did I! The badge thingy, bridal piece, and buckle were all in the same hole about 12 inches deep. The bridal piece still has a piece of leather attached! image.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webpimage.webp The other piece( I think it's a barrel band) was about 10 feet away. I scraped a little bit inside and it's real shiny. Can't tell what the badge is. It has an S on it, gold gilt, and is really heavy. Any thoughts? Thanks for looking Mike.

Nice finds ... :icon_thumright:

Thanks DW!

the one piece does look like a gun barrel band, just not sure about how thick it is

The three objects you found in the same hole are all from a horse's bridle. the two-loops brass one with leather is a bridle's "swivel" (see the scan from a horseharness catalog, below). The "badge" is a fancy bridle rosette and the letter S on it is most probably the wealthy owner's family-initial. It had an iron bar across its back, which has rusted away.

Thanks CBG! You are a wealth of knowledge. I appreciate it. Mike
