Found this today at a mid-1800s cellar hole site. At first I thought I found someone's piggy bank! Unfortunately it was empty....
You can see there is a hook on the one side, and a slit in the middle for putting things inside. I thought it may have been a mailbox but then realized that the letters would not be able to be stuffed in without crumpling them.
Measures 6 1/2 " x 5 1/2" and about 3" tall.
