found this detecting in the desert ,it says active member 30824 american law enforcement officers assn/ not sure of date or what it was for,

Obviously a permit license of some type, I'm sure someone here will recognize what it was used for.

I agree with Dave .. A very interesting piece! I see a lot of things under American Law Enforcement Officers Association, but they all seem to be people associated with foreign countries that served here in law enforcement. I haven't found an American American association yet, if that makes any sense. I am sure they were all Americans, but I couldn't think of any other way to phrase it.

No reference to size. If it is big enough to be an automobile plate that shape was used from the early teens to late 1920s

4 x 14 is in line with early plates for autos the teens were generally ceramic over flat steel which this is not. SO I think it is safe to say that this is after 1920 and before 1930 when the plates became taller. As far as finding history, good luck I checked the Police Officers "Yellow Pages" and there is not an exact match for this association American Law Enforcement Officers etc... So it has changed names or is defunct There are thousands of associations for law enforcement so checking the history of them to find out if they had a former name would take you to retirement if you aren't there already.
