Some more finds from this ranch a buddy of mine lives on up near the base of these mountains, where there were once a bunch of old mines. At the first old site, there wasn't much, but I did find that old UMC Nitro shell, which dates to about 1894 to about 1899, and that little suspender buckle, which says "Crown Make" and a 1900 patent date. You can tell it had recently washed up from the rain. Also a smashed UMC .45 Colt, which should be pre-1911, and that large WRA Co. 45-60 casing. Two of the other casings are WW2 carbine rounds dated 1944. Around this time it started pouring, so we headed to another site just on the other side of the hilll, where there was another old mine and an old barn and corral and so forth. I found the big loop thing in the corral, which was built of old RR ties. The date nails came from the RR ties, and there are probably a few more out there. I didnt check them all since it was starting to rain and I was a little spooked when I saw a rattlesnake wound up in between some smaller boards that were nailed to one of the RR tie/fence post sticking out of the ground. It was a few feet up and I got much closer than I would have liked to before I saw it. No photo, sorry, It was really thick with brush so a photo wouldnt have come out so well anyway. Behind the corral was an old trash dump, with that brown stopper, the REM-UMC Shurhsot (1911-1934) and that large thing there, which is actually a piece of a STANLEY level patented in 1896. Date nails include a 1925, 1926, two 1927s, a 1928, two 1932s and two 1936s. Also found a nice 1929, but the head broke off when I tried to pull it. You have to be careful with them sometimes. Im not sure what some of this stuff is, so if you know, please let me know.

One last thing about that shiny modern rifle casing, is that a 2013 date on it? And what is this, .223 or something? And why is it dated? Could that mean it was made for military or law enforcement use? I know a lot of the old military bullets and stuff were dated, whereas ammo made for civilian use generally is not.

And thanks for looking.

Ignore that last photo, I dont know why it wont go away.

The WCC is Western Cartridge Company. The 13 is the date. And the circle with the + in it shows it is made to NATO specs.

Thank you! I think Border Patrol must have left it behind, I think they use or have used .223 caliber rifles. Kind of a cool modern history find.

Nice mixture of old relics buddy. You find some pretty interesting stuff in the desert. Thanks for posting.:icon_thumleft:

Nice assortment Congrats !!

Thanks I did find a few neat things, but the rain prevented me from hanging out longer. There was several miles of dirt road and the storm I had to drive through, and let me tell you the desert looked like an ocean with the amount of rain that came down today. Serious flash flood danger, and I had to detour around a flowing street to make it home. My friend didn't find much, but he wasn't really looking. Just tagging along got the fun. It's really beautiful and green this time of year and lots of critters out and about in the desert.

Why did I move back to Michigan I wish I was detecting when I was in AZ

Great finds by the way my Friend!!!!!
