A buddy of mine found this iron relic in Eastern Ontario.
I think this might be some sort of strange tool, it’s stamped David Jones? :icon_scratch:
It’s 9.25” long by 5/8” wide.
Also found at the same site were 3 Kettle arrow heads, a glass trade bead & a mid 1700s (Wool) lead bale seal.

Any help with an I.D. for this iron relic would be awesome.

Thanks,
Dave

The tool looks sort of like something a farrier might use for work with horse hoofs and horse shoes.

Thanks very much for your response guys. :occasion14:

If this is a farriers tool, would it be a safe assumption that 'David Jones' was the owner/ maker of the tool? :icon_scratch:

9.25” long by 5/8” wide would be a mighty hefty hoof pick...I'm not convinced.

I was not saying the object was a hoof pick. I was saying the words Raider19962 was thinking of.

Fireplace pot hook?

I like the ferries pick idea and it would be about right for large draft horses or oxen, but most of the time you find at least a few horseshoes around. Also that burr on the backend would tear your hand open ruthlessly. Maybe some kind of a carpenter's tool.

Thanks very much for all of your interesting and sometimes comical posts!

I guess this is just one of those relics that we may never know exactly what it is. :dontknow:

I initially thought hood pick... but on seeing it further, and thus ruminating on it, I feel
it is not likely to be one Dave.. but I am afraid that I have no ideas as to what it might be.

Thanks for your insight into this piece Micheal.
You might remember back in October that Ward found this piece on a site in Eastern Ontario.
I offered to post it here to help him get a handle on what it might be.

I doubt we'll ever know what it was really for... likely a specially made tool for some need long ago. :icon_scratch:
