Some sort of wedge ??

Found this in a farmyard ...

It is about 3 3/4 inches long.? First thought it was a hatchet head.? Others have thought it might be some sort of wedge.? The hole has an indentation around it on both sides where it looks like something might have fit into it (the hole does go all the way thru ... bad picture of it).? The end looks like it might have been struck with something else like a hammer.

Any ideas as to what it is?

Looks like a wood splittng wedge, they used it to wedge into the wood and hit with the back of the axe or a hammer to split the wood.

I had thought that too. The things that don't make sense are the hole with the indent around it on both sides and the curve that you see when looking at the face. It has a slight curve (convex on the top and concave on the bottom edge) that wouldn't seem necessary for a wedge. And what would the indent around the hole be for? I could see using the hole itself for maybe carrying them on a rope or for prying them back out somehow but the indent doesn't seem like it serves any purpose.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate any insight on these things that I can get.
