Has anyone seen this type of brass buckle before (or whatever it is). I'm wondering what it was used for. I suspect it's from Victorian period, mid to late 1800s.

First thing that came to mind was a cloak clasp. But, my mind has been off recently so it could be anything. If it is to a cloak or coat clasp it would go at the top near the wearers neck.

Very cool find! Learn something new everyday on TNet - What Is It. Looking at the back it looked like a horse bridle rosette that someone attached a ball & chain to.
