Mostly smooth and flat black in color on outside, inside looks like compressed black sand. It's very heavy for it's size at over 9oz. It was unlike anything else found in the area of keener, Al.

But it isnt bubbly just looks as if it flowed like a liquid at some point...but other than that and the location i found it in it sounds spot on.

I'm still leaning towards hematite.
It is the Alabama State Mineral, and very prevalent.
( Does a magnet stick ? )

Goethite is similar and often gets lumped in with hematite.
I'm seeing that there was a historical site/mine called Goethite, to the west.
Also seeing examples from just east of you.
So it looks likely it makes a swath right through where you are at.

Alabama rocks are not my thing, so I'm just winging it and hoping you can find better
local clarification.

Lots of iron in Alabama.

Botroidal hematite is correct, it is an ore of iron.

It doesnt stick to a magnet. Tried a very strong one too. I have rock hunted around a good bit here and never seen anything like this some similar looking but very small and not as heavy compared to their size. Im sure your right though...you know this stuff a lot better than me. I know quartz and flint and not too well...lol

Does iron not attract to a magnet though....im leaning toward something that was very hot and in motion a suddenly cooled but I have absolutely no expertise in the field to say such.
