Something different from a calvary fort

Found these way back in the 80's. They were very close together. Looks like they hammered out a quarter and were making something ( I guessed maybe an inlay for a gun or an inlaid tag on something). The little made up piece is neatly done,you can see lines lightly scribed on it when they were laying it out. My only regret is that they aren't gold.

Makes sense to me. I wouldn't have thought of it, but a natural way to get sheet silver for an inlay project.

You can still see the reeded edge on the round piece, both are tarnishing like silver. Haven't tested it but am pretty sure. Thanks for replies guys. Always fun to speculate on stuff.
