I found this yesterday near where there used to be an old railroad. Does anyone have any idea what it could be ?

It's a fly reel.

Without knowing the maker it is hard to tell exactly when it was made. That type of reel was first made in the mid1800's. Judging by the metal work and screw heads I would guess around 1900 ?
